WELLSBORO — Troy's late rally came up short as they fell to Wellsboro, 14-9, during District 15 Majors Softball action Saturday.
Troy led 1-0 after one but Wellsboro pushed eight across in the second to take a 7-run lead.
Troy got five back in the top of the third to make it an 8-6 game with Wellsboro adding two more in the bottom half.
Wellsboro out scored Troy 2-1 in the fourth, then notched two more runs in the fifth for a 14-7 lead.
Troy fought to the end, scoring two in the sixth, but couldn't complete the comeback.
Mariska Putnam (3-for-3) scored four times for Troy as Piper May (4-for-4) had a double, a triple, 3-RBI, and a run scored.
Leyna Schap (1-for-2) scored twice and drove in a run with Jocelyn Shumway (1-for-4) scoring and driving in a run.
Abigail Judson (1-for-3) also scored as Chloe Hamm had an RBI.
Haylee Estep started, and went 1 2/3-innings, with Putnam going the rest of the way, striking out two.
With the loss Troy falls out of the tournament.
