Northern Tier Sports Report
It was quite a baseball season for Bradford County teams as Athens shared a Large School title, Troy posted another strong season, Towanda used a late rally to sneak into the playoffs, and NEB bounced from a year off to qualify for district play.
The Wildcats continued their trek through the NTL, their only loss coming against Wellsboro, as Brady Flynn led the way. Flynn hit .478 with five doubles, 13-RBI, and 24 runs scored to be the Bradford County Baseball All-stars Player of the Year.
Teammate Duncan Thetga took the lion's share of innings on the mound, tossing 47, to strikeout 34 with an ERA of 2.085, earning him Pitcher of the Year honors.
Troy's Brendan Gilliland had an outstanding season at the plate, hitting .478 with 23-RBI and 31 runs scored as he rocked four doubles and two triples to be the Offensive Player of the Year.
NEB practically started from scratch this year after a year but didn't miss much of a beat.
Freshman Cooper Hugo had a big year, hitting .390 with 20-RBI, 15 runs scored, and three doubles, while sporting a 3.19 ERA and striking out 29 from the mound to be the Newcomer of the Year.
His senior brother Kohen Hugo played a little bit of every where for NEB - catcher, short-stop, second base - and finished with a .933 fielding percentage to be the Defensive Player of the Year. He also had a strong year on the mound with 77 strikeouts.
Coach Brian Salsman crafted together a team that was two-thirds freshmen and qualified for districts as they finished the year .500. He and his staff are the Coaching Staff of the Year.
