ATHENS — Towanda held off a late Athens rally, 7-3, to claim the District 15 Minors Softball pool play title on Monday.

Towanda finishes pool play 3-0 and earns the top seed for bracket play, which starts on Wednesday. They will face the loser of Canton at Wellsboro, which was moved to Tuesday.

Towanda led 1-0 after one, then scored two runs in each of the third and fourth innings to go up 5-0.

They tacked on runs in the fifth and sixth innings for a 7-0 lead.

Athens rallied in the sixth, scoring three runs, but couldn't quite complete the comeback.

Violet White (2-for-3) had a home run, and 3-RBI to lead Towanda as Adley Miller (2-for-2) had a double and scored twice.

Eme Maye (1-for-2) scored twice as Olivia Willey (1-for-2) drove in two runs. Charlee Wheeler also crossed home.

Maye struck out 12 in the win.
