ATHENS — Canton Minors softball nearly upset Athens, falling 2-1 in the opening round of District 15 bracket play Wednesday.

Athens led 1-0 after one, then scored another run in the fourth. Canton rallied in the sixth with a run, but couldn't tie it up.

Emily (1-for-2) scored a run as Madison (1-for-2), Kendall (1-for-2), and Lola (1-for-2) all had hits.

Leah Ross struck out eight in the loss.

Canton faces Wellsboro on Friday in the elimination bracket.
