YOUTH: BIG SIXTH INNING LEADS CANTON PAST SAYRE (2026-06-28)

SAYRE — Canton Majors baseball staved off elimination thanks to a 14-7 win over Sayre during District 15 elimination bracket action Sunday.

It was 1-1 after one with Canton pushing another run across in the second. They would out score Sayre 3-1 in the four to take a 5-2 lead.

Sayre went ahead with a 5-run fifth for a 7-5 ball game, but Canton laughed last thanks to a 9-run sixth inning.

Barrett Pepper (3-for-4) had a double, a triple, 2-RBI, and two runs scored for Canton as Christian Moore (3-for-4) had a triple with three runs scored, and 2-RBI.

Tommy Thompson (2-for-4) scored four times, and drove in a run, with Avery Moore (2-for-2) hitting a triple with 3-RBI, and a run scored.

Tanner Gowin (1-for-4) had a double with 3-RBI as Hunter Burr (1-for-4), Jake VanHorn, Sawyer Schultz, and Lincoln Holcomb (1-for-2) all scored. Schultz also drove in a run.

Burr started, and went 4 2/3-innings with eight strikeouts, as Christian Moore struck out two in 1 1/3-innings of action.

Canton will host the loser of Wellsboro and Southern Tioga on July 2.
