WELLSBORO — Towanda boys golf made a statement as they opened their NTL title defense on Monday behind Boom Thompson's 68.
The Knights shot 305 as a team, 22 strokes better than second place Athens (327). Wellsboro (344) was third, NP-Mansfield (350) came in fourth, CV (369) was fifth, Wyalusing (387) took sixth, Canton (402) was seventh, and Sayre (434) finished eighth.
After Thompson's 68 Owen Savercool carded a 77, with Graham Welles and Jason Wickwire both shooting 80. Harper Welles notched an 82, while Baylee Clark scored a 104.
Thompson had an eagle on the par-5 fourth hole while getting birdies on the par-4 third and sixth hole. He would go on to par 14 of the 15 other holes to shoot 3-under on the day.
Savercool had birdies on the par-4 third hole, and par-4 ninth hole to go with 10 pars.
Wickwire had birdies on the par-4 third hole, and the par-4 16th hole, with Graham getting a birdie on the par-4 15th hole.
Harper had a birdie on the par-4 third hole, with Clark netting three pars during the round.
On the girls' side Towanda (296) was edged by Athens (288) for the top spot. Wyalusing (383) was third followed by Sayre (398).
Olivia Heath shot 94 to lead Towanda behind four pars, while Rosie Glantz, and Payton Perry both carded a 101 with three pars.
Izzy Repsher shot 104 with three pars, as Gemma Brown notched a 124.
Towanda will host an NTL match on Wednesday with a 1 p.m. start.
