FOOTBALL: CANTON BRINGS IN CV TO START THE SEASON (2026-08-27)

It's week one and Canton has a familiar opponent in Cowanesque Valley to kick-off the season.

The Warriors are coming off a home scrimmage against Northwest.

"We have some things to work on but it was nice to get on the field with another team and get a look at game speed," said Canton coach Tyler Sechrist.

The Indians are coming off a playoff appearance last season.

"CV has some good athletes and a great coaching staff," Sechrist said. "They will be ready to play week one."

This game was originally at Westfield, but their new stadium isn't ready yet, so Canton gets an extra home game this season.

"We are excited to not have to travel for week one," remarked Sechrist. "Playing at home is a great atmosphere and we have awesome support from the community."

KEYS TO THE GAME
CV - Slow down Canton's passing attack. That was the Warriors' strength last season, and they showed it off again in their scrimmage.

Canton - Stay strong in the trenches. Slowing down CV's run game will go a long way to keeping the Warriors in the game.

PLAYERS TO WATCH
Kegan Lane, CV, RB/MLB - Lane is one of those athletes coach Sechrist was talking about. He's one of the best 2-way players in the league.

Owen Moore, Canton, QB - Moore nearly passed for 1,000 yards last season, and comes in with that year of experience under his belt, and a full offseason to improve.
