Towanda hits the road to start the season, heading up Route 220 to take on Sayre.

They're coming off an eye opening scrimmage against South Williamsport last weekend.

"They're a really good team, and when you play a really good team the margin of error has to be really, really small," Towanda coach Jamie Wecker said. "Some of the boo-boos we made became more obvious because they could take advantage of it, but I think that helps us a lot. It's good to play a tough team in our scrimmage because it really helps us understand what we're doing well, and what we may have to work on for the next week to get a little bit better. Overall, I thought it was a good experience for us. I think we are a better team today than we were Saturday when we went up against them."

They're facing a Sayre team that has a new coaching staff.

"You don't know what you get the first game of the year, it's really hard to tell what everybody has," said Wecker. "There's some athletes there, the quarterback is back, and he does a nice job. He's managing the game, he can throw the deep ball, and they do a real good job with play action. They got multiple fronts defensively, which causes problems, especially early in the season. Offensively, you learn how to block certain players, and then you have to learn it with a different front, and that makes it more difficult."

Wecker believes this game will help get his returners back into shape, and see how much they've grown during the off-season.

"We have a lot of the same kids from last year with another year under their belt," he said. "Another year of getting bigger, now getting stronger, smarter - those kinds of things. I'm excited to see how a lot of those kids have changed from last year to this year. It should be an exciting for us tomorrow night."

KEYS TO THE GAME

Towanda - Unleash the speed. The Knights has plenty of speed all over the field, if they find a way to let it loose it could be a long night for Sayre.

Sayre - Ball control. The best way for them to slow down Towanda's offense will be to keep it off the field.

PLAYERS TO WAWTCH

Gage Evans, Towanda, RB - Evans missed all of last year with an injury so this will be the first time fans will be able to see what he can do on the field.

Hudson Malanoski, Sayre, RB/LB - Malanoski did a little bit of everything for Sayre last year, and he brings plenty of size with that experience.
