WYALUSING — Both teams had their chances but it was Wellsboro that made the most of them with the Hornets using a pair of Kate Bryant free kick goals to edge Wyalusing, 2-0, in NTL girls soccer action Wednesday.

Both girls came in the second half off fouls at the periphery of the box. Bryant was able to hit the high far corner both times.

The Hornets had a 21-9 edge in shots while the Rams had a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Sierra Gromley made 11 saves in net for the Rams.

Wellsboro had a couple of opportunities early, the first coming seven minutes in when Gromly was out of the net. The Hornet shot, though, went safely over the cross-bar.

Four minutes later a Wellsboro shot from distance buzzed bar the left post.

After that it was Wyalusing's turn to scare the Hornets, beginning with a Vayda Rought breakaway that was broken up at the last second by a Wellsboro defender.

With 14 minutes to go a Lia Fischer free kick was stopped by Wellsboro keeper Jadyn Dunlap, then she recovered enough to save the rebound from going in.

Wyalusing's best chance of the night came with six minutes left in the half when Fischer crossed to an open Rought in the box, with her shot bouncing just off the near post.

It was a different game in the second half with Wellsboro's pressure keeping Wyalusing in their defensive end for most of the final 40 minutes.

Bryant scored her first at the 37:22 mark, then got the second with 14:32 left to play.

Fischer nearly had the equalizer with 15 minutes to go as her shot from distance had a strong foot behind it, but Dunlap was able to reach up and snag it.

Wyalusing (1-2) will travel to NEB on Friday.
