CANTON — While they didn't start their sets strong Towanda did end them that way as they swept Canton, 3-0, during NTL volleyball action Tuesday.

The Knights won the sets 25-18, 25-17, and 25-21, but were losing early in all three. However, the veteran Towanda team never panicked, and ultimately took control of each game.

"It feels great," Towanda coach Cassie Smith said. "Hats off to them, they're a great team. They're scrappy, they bring a lot of stuff over the net that you're not really expecting; they attack really well."

The past couple of seasons Canton has given Towanda fits, including a 3-2 win last year in Towanda after falling down 2-1..

"For us to come out here and get it in three straight, that felt really good," said Smith. "Especially, coming off of a tough road game in Athens."

Lariah Long had 10 kills, 10 digs, seven points, two aces, and an assist for Towanda, while Addison Barrett finished with 10 kills, three blocks, three points, and three digs.

Karis Flynn notched 18 digs, 17 assists, seven kills, four points, and a block, as Kendall Kellogg had nine kills, 12 points, four aces, and five digs.

Brynsen Vargason added 21 digs and seven points, with Hannah Crawford getting eight points, two aces, two kills, one dig, and one assist.

Kylee Barnes had three blocks and two kills, as Ali Hollett notched seven assists, and four digs.

For Canton Cailyn Van Noy had 20 digs, three points, two aces, two assists, and a kill, with Makenna Seachrist adding 13 digs, one block, six kills, four points, and an ace.

Danah Wesneski had seven digs, four assists, three points, and two kills, as Emilia Pepper notched four points, four digs, two kills, and an assist.

Addy Cardona had five points, four kills, two digs, two blocks, and two aces, with Brenna Van Noy getting six assists, and four digs.

Peyton Taylor had five assists, two digs, four kills, and three points, with Hannah Walters adding three kills, and Kaybree Kendall getting two points, and six digs.

The first set was about as tight as it gets with the two teams tied at 15 after 30 points.

That's when the Knights went on a 6-0 run to take a 6-point lead. The Warriors would get kills from Wesneski and Walters to cut it to 22-18, but Long responded with three straight kills to push Towanda over the top.

"We love to see our seniors step up at those kinds of times," said Smith. "She was a little spark that lit the first, so that was nice."

After an early Warrior lead Towanda pulled away in the second set, but the third set was tight like the first.

It was tied at 19-all when the Knights went on a 4-point run, including a Long ace, and a Kellogg kill.

Cailyn Van Noy got a push kill, then a Towanda net touch violation made it a 2-point set.

Kellogg ended that run with a kill, with the Knights taking the win after a Canton attack landed out.

"They never let it get too far," Smith said about her team's slow starts. "Even if they got down a point or two here and there they still felt like they were in control, and that just shows maturity."

Towanda JV pulled out the win, as well, with set wins of 27-25 and 25-16.

Addison Aquilio had 18 points, nine aces, nine digs, and 12 assists for the Knights as Emma Bride finished with 10 kills, two blocks, two points, and two digs.

Madelyn Nash added five digs, one kill, three points, and an ace, with Adaleigh Jankowsky finishing with four kills, three digs, three points, and an ace.

Samantha Hartigan had four points, an ace, and two digs, Mercede Overpeck tallied five digs, a kill, and a point, with Lesley Parker and Ella Rice each getting a kill.

Canton will host NEB on Thursday with Towanda welcoming Troy.
