Towanda's Maris Cobb has had a strong start to her sophomore season, which includes a top 10 finish at Penn State's Spiked Shoe Invitational.

"I feel strong, and I've only had one hard race so far, so I'm excited to see how much I improve," Cobb said. 

Cobb ran 19:03.2 to take seventh at the event, besting her effort last year, where she was eighth in 19:08.16.

"I'm super happy that I improved my time and placement from last year," remarked Cobb. "

The event brings in some of the best in the state. Last year Lewisburg's Bailey Espinoza won the race, this year it was Williamsport's Isabelle Sanders.

"It's really challenging to get in a good mental space about your running with all those good runners," Cobb said.

She'd like to continue to improve from last year as the season goes on, especially in the postseason. Cobb was third at districts in 2025, and brought home a state medal.

Team wise, they're once again in competition for a state berth. They edged out Lewisburg in the team standings by nearly 40 points, who is they'll likely be competing against for that second spot.

"It gives us a good mindset to stay positive, to know we can get there," said Cobb.
