WYALUSING — Wyalusing's Lia Fischer scored in the final 10 minutes as the Rams were able to knot up Athens, 1-1, during NTL girls soccer action Wednesday.

"I was so proud of the grit that our girls showed, not giving up," said Wyalusing coach Katie Fischer. "Sometimes when a goal is scored on you sometimes you like to put your head down and say, 'the game is over,' but the fact that the girls gutted that out and didn't stop playing, I'm so proud of them."

After a scoreless first half Everleigh Waring got the Wildcats on the scoreboard with a goal at the 32:09 mark of the second half.

Then with 8:25 left in the game Fischer drove through the defense and punched it home to force the draw.

"One or two plays before when she had a break away and there was a collision with the goalie, she could have chose to let that take her out of the game," said coach Fischer. "But I say to her, 'let it light your fire,' and I was so proud that she chose to light the fire on that, and do her thing. Also for her, a lot of people have known her that she's only going to shoot from out here, and now, yes you can dribble in, and put it in the back of the net from close."

Athens had a 16-9 edge in shots, and 2-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Sierra Gromley made 11 saves in net for the Rams.

Wyalusing travels to Williamson on Friday.
