MANSFIELD — Wyalusing came out flat in the first and third quarters, which negated a good effort in the second and fourth quarters, particularly from their defense, as they fell 29-0 to CV during NTL football action Friday.

The Indians scored 23 of their points in the first and third quarters, while their second quarter touchdown came with 11:51 on the clock.

The Rams did get six stops in the game, including a fumble recovery on one, while their offense got inside the Indian Red Zone twice but couldn't come away with points.

They did have their best offensive showing of the year, finishing with 93 total yards, and four first downs.

Wiley Trobaugh was 4-for-11 for 59-yards while Jacob Gromley led them on the ground with 24-yards on seven carries. Dillon Gonsauls added 21-yards on 15 carries while Patrick O'Connor had five rushes for 11-yards.

Andrew Taylor had two catches for 28-yards to lead Wyalusing, as Landry Tinna hauled in a 26-yard catch.

For CV Dave Hess took it to the house on the first play from scrimmage, and finished with 169-yards and two scores on 18-carries. The Indians ran the ball 43 times for 230-yards as a team.

Colton Begley (12 carries, 30-yards), and Max Millard (four carries, 25-yards) also shouldered some of the load, while offensive lineman Stevie Olsen picked up a fumble and ran it into the end zone from 18-yards out.

Gavin Churchill was 4-for-12 for 68-yards throwing the ball while adding a rushing touchdown.

Camden Stahli had a 34-yard catch as Hess added a 17-yard reception.

After taking the opening kick-off Hess went 70-yards over the right side on a sweep to pay dirt, though the extra point was no good, to give CV a 6-0 lead 15 seconds into the game.

On the ensuing Ram drive Trobaugh found Tinna for a 26-yard gain to get up to midfield, then a 5-yard pass from Trobaugh to Trentyn Gardner got them inside the CV 40-yard line.

However, the CV defense stiffened, stopping the Rams on a 4th-and-3 for their first of five turnover on downs.

CV's second drive also ended in a score as they went 64-yards on 10 plays ending in a 9-yard Hess run that saw him dive into the end zone.

A 34-yard pass play from Churchill to Stahli on second down got them in Wyalusing territory.

Twice during the drive the Indians were able to convert on third down, including a big 9-yard run from Max Millard on third-and-6 to keep the drive alive.

Begley punched in the 2-point conversion for a 14-0 lead with 3:39 left in the opening quarter.

Wyalusing went 3-and-out with CV getting the ball back on the Ram 44-yard line.

This time they needed just six plays to hit pay dirt, though some early penalties backed them up to their 48-yard line at one point.

A 17-yard pass play of Churchill to Hess made it third-and-2, with Churchill calling his own number to get the first down.

Three plays later Churchill fumbled the snap but Olsen was Johnnie-on-the-Spot, scooping up the loose ball and rumbling 18-yards to pay dirt.

Wyalusing's Jesse Lamb blocked the extra point as CV led 20-0 nine seconds into the second quarter.

The defenses settled in after this. 

Wyalusing's second drive ended in a punt, but then Wyalusing got their biggest momentum booster of the game when a strip sack by Lamb led to a Liam Salsman-Kluth fumble recovery.

Back to back run plays totaling 21-yards got the Rams inside the CV 40, but the drive stalled there and they would turn it over on downs.

Lamb came up big on the ensuing CV drive, sacking Churchill 10-yards deep on fourth-and-7 to get Wyalusing the ball back.

The Rams would get the ball all the way down inside the CV 15-yard line, just four yards out from a new set of downs, but CV's defense held the Rams to runs of no yards and 2-yards to force the turnover on downs.

The final drive of the half saw CV get stopped inside the Wyalusing 30-yard line on a Lamb tackle for loss as the final seconds ticked off the clock.

Wyalusing was due to get the ball in the second half, but they couldn't handle a squib kick from the Indians as CV fell on the loose ball to get takeover at the Wyalusing 30-yard line.

The Rams didn't make it easy, but CV pounded out eight plays to get into the end zone on a 1-yard Churchill plunge.bA 2-yard run from Churchill on 4th-and-1 kept the drive alive.

Wyalusing's Patrick Dahl blocked the point after to keep it a 26-0 lead with 7:54 to play in the third.

The Rams would go 3-and-out, giving CV the ball at the Wyalusing 35-yard line.

This drive ended with a 24-yard field goal from Mason Wonderlich at the Ram 7-yard line.

It took CV 10 plays to get there as the Rams had a 4th-and-21 from the Indian 37-yard line but the interception on the play was negated by a roughing the passer call that gave CV a new set of downs.

Three plays later on third-and-3 a 6-yard run from Hess got them a first at the Wyalusing 9-yard line.

The Ram defense held up, though, forcing the field goal for a 29-0 lead.

The fourth quarter saw the two teams trade empty possessions. The Rams would get inside the CV 20-yard line but turned it over when they got stuffed on a 4th-and-4. 

The Indians would run out the clock for the win.

Wyalusing welcomes Sayre, who eked out a win over North Penn-Mansfield, next Saturday at home with a noon start.
