Towanda (2-2) is going to be looking for a bounce back week but it won't be easy as they head to Athens (3-1) for a Thursday night 7:30 p.m. start.

"I think everybody associated with our team understands that we didn’t perform up to our standards Friday," said Towanda coach Jamie Wecker. "Fixing that starts with me. Hopefully we learned that if we don’t practice well and don’t prepare both physically and mentally to play against good teams, we are going to struggle. We didn’t do that last week, and we got beat by a good Muncy team."

The Knights might be on a 2-game skid but the Wildcats are on a 2-game win streak, coming off a 17-7 win at South Williamsport last week.

"We have a great opportunity this week to see how much we learned from last week," said Wecker. "Athens is a very talented team, and they pose some challenges for us for sure. Obviously, the QB is a special player, but they have other weapons as well. They are fast and athletic. But our kids are very excited about the game, and I’m looking forward to see how we perform."

This is one of those Thursday games that have been happening here and there for the last few years, but Wecker will take Thursday night if it can't be on a Friday.

"I know this is a Thursday game, but nothing really changes for us except that we start prepping a day early," he said. "I’d much rather play on a Thursday evening than in the middle of the day on a Saturday."

KEYS TO THE GAME

Towanda - Keep Connor Davidson contained. Easier said than done, but Troy was able to do it and came away with a win. The Wildcats ended up beating everybody else.

Athens - Be wary of Towanda's speed. They showed it off against Troy, with their penchant for turnovers being their undoing in that game. The Knights have several players who can break a big one.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Shane Maghamez, Towanda, LB - Maghamez leads the team in tackles with 32, including three tackles for loss. His play will be key if they want to keep Davidson in check.

Brendan Cooke, Athens RB - Cooke gets lost a little bit in Davidson's rushing numbers, but he's capable of a big game on the ground, as well, and may get a his chance sooner than later.
