Towanda's (2-3) football season has been a roller coaster, with some early highs, and now they've come back down. They're hoping a wi over CV (2-3) will bring them out of their 3-game losing streak.
The Indians are coming off a 52-7 win over NPM, their second straight.
"CV is a strong physical team that likes to run downhill at you," Towanda coach Jamie Wecker said. "They have good line who tries to impose their will on the defense and skill kids who can hurt you."
Last week Towanda had a tough time slowing down Athens, so they got back to basics this week.
"Defensively we really focused on taking care of the fundamentals," said Wecker. "You know, more times than not, the team who plays the cleanest game wins, and that starts with being disciplined and fundamentally sound on defense."
They were able to put points on the scoreboard last week, scoring 21 when they were able to get the ball.
"I thought offensively we did a lot of good stuff last week, we just couldn’t get stops when we needed to," said Wecker. "Still, a lot of areas where we need to improve, and that’s what we constantly keep working on."
KEYS TO THE GAME
CV - Slow Towanda down. Easier said than done, but the Black Knights have the speed edge, and the Indians will have to try to find a way to negate that.
Towanda - Don't get bogged down in a ground and pound battle. CV wants long possessions as they chip away at the yards. The Black Knight defense needs to get stops on short yardage situations.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Gavin Churchill, CV, QB - Churchill has thrown for two touchdowns on the season as the Indians try to take some pressure off Dave Hess.
Dom Miller, Towanda, OL/DL - Miller is one of those players in the trenches that will need to step up to slow down the CV run game.
