Wyalusing (0-5) travels to Montgomery (4-1) for a 7 p.m. kick-off on Friday.
The Rams are coming off their best game yet in the loss to Sayre as they put together their first full half of play this season.
The Red Raiders have been in some tight ones this year, coming off a 30-20 win over Muncy last week.
"Montgomery is going to be a really hard, physical game this week," Wyalusing coach Jeffrey Hindman said. "They are big, fast and they hit hard. This is another really big test for our young team, especially on the road and Montgomery has that extra motivation for their homecoming. This is a team that plays disciplined football; they don't seem to make many mistakes. They know their scheme and systems. Their coaches have done a great job teaching everyone where they need to be."
They had their first 100-yard rushing game last week, while also found success through the air, but keeping that momentum has been tough on a thin roster.
"This has been a challenging week for us," Hindman said. "Fighting those injuries that mount as the season progresses, finding the next man up. We've had to work some guys in at new positions, get them practice reps and help them feel comfortable in a new role. I've been impressed with the way guys have stepped us this week, really taking it all in and giving everything they have for the team. We're looking to play physical, keep drives going and try to put points on the board. We finally found the endzone last week and we just want to build on that success in any way."
The Raiders have leaned on their run game all season, and, for the most part, it's worked.
"We have to play a fundamentally sound defensive game," Hindman said. "Montgomery has big, strong lineman and some really good skill players that can get chunks of yards. But they are also comfortable grinding out a drive 3-4 yards at a time. We have to make sure we are in the right spots before the snap and keep everyone focused on their job. We've been working all year to trust the guy next to you, let them worry about their job and you do yours. That's been tough as we learn a new system and have to shuffle guys around and try to find the best fits and fill holes. We've seen the progress even if the record and scoreboard haven't shown it. Guys are getting better every week and showing a lot of fight and toughness every play."
KEYS TO THE GAME
Wyalusing - Get off the field defensively. Each week they get a little better at getting stops, but that will be put to the test this week.
Montgomery - Test out the passing game. Sayre found success through the air last week and it helped their ground game, the Raiders might try to emulate that.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
JJ Latini, Wyalusing, C/DT - The starting center and nose tackle, Latini will need to have a big game if the Rams are going to hang with Montgomery.
