Sullivan County's Calen Sweigart was a state qualifier last year as a freshman, and for his sophomore follow-up he's doing even better.

"I missed it," Sweigart said about running. "It's really exciting that I get to compete against higher people."

At the Ben Bloser Invitational a few weeks ago he took ninth in 17:24.52, then this past weekend at the NEPA Invitational Sweigart was fifth overall in 16:50. He was 56th the year before.

"That feels good," Sweigart said about the Ben Bloser Invitational. "My main goal is to place at states, hopefully, so it feels good."

He was 110th at the PIAA Championships last year, but before that he has his sites set on the District IV Championships in a couple weeks. He recently lost to NEB's Jackson Martin, who recently won his race at McQuaid and is poised to claim the district title.

"We're going to do some workouts, and hopefully get feeling as best we can for states," said Sweigart.

The team race looks like it'll come down to Sullivan and NEB, too, as the two teams were just a few points apart in the dual meet.

"It's going to be a really good race, I'm excited for it," said Sweigart. "We're going to get as prepared as we can."
