When Wyalusing's Josie Ferris started her volleyball career getting 1,000 assists from furthest from her mind, but it's a long winding, road from freshman to senior, and for Ferris that road led past that milestone.
"I did not believe it could ever happen because as a freshman I was the libero so I had a goal of getting as many digs as I could," explained Ferris. "Once I started setting, I always had this as a goal but I never truly thought it was possible to accomplish in three years."
It takes a little help to get 1,000 assists as you need hitters to do half the work, and Ferris cultivated a close relationship with all the hitters she's set up over the years.
"The bond has just came so naturally because I have had such close, personal friendships with all of my hitters," Ferris said. "It’s nice to know they trust me as much as I trust them. It feels truly unbelievable to reach such a huge milestone. It’s something that may not have ever happened if I did not have such great hitters and passers over the past three years."
Wyalusing volleyball has a rich history of setting over the years, and now Ferris will see her name alongside all those other setters that have passed 1,000 assists.
"It’s truly an honor because I have always looked up to all of the setters before me hoping to be as great as them one day," said Ferris. "I wouldn’t have been able to achieve any of my accomplishments if it weren’t for Coach Renee Broschart who constantly believed in me even as a freshman."
