GIRLS SOCCER: WYALUSING TOPS TROY FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE 2010 (2026-10-06)

Northern Tier Sports Report
WYALUSING — It's been over 16 years since Wyalusing girls soccer last beat Troy, but on Tuesday they used a strong defensive effort to shut out the Trojans, 3-0, in NTL action.

"Such a big win for our girls," said Wyalusing coach Katie Fischer. "Everyone knows that Troy is a dominant team, and for our girls to keep a blank slate is a huge success for us. It was a full team effort with our defense communicating the entire 80 minutes, our midfielders working hard to control the middle, and our strikers capitalizing when necessary. I couldn’t be more proud of the teamwork that they showed tonight."

Lia Fischer and Vayda Rought each had a goal and an assist, with Kinley Thoman scoring, and Ava King getting an assist.

"It feels amazing," Rought said about the win. "I feel like we've accomplished a lot and it feels really good that everything we've been working on came together."

Troy had the edge in shots, 22-16, and corner kicks 10-0, with Wyalusing's Sierra Gromley making 13 saves to get the clean sheet. Izzy Renzi had six saves for Troy, while Emma Mickley came on to make three stops.

Troy had some close chances early, including a center pass off a free kick that found a streaker, but her shot was just wide.

But it was Fischer, who was two days old when Wyalusing last beat Troy, who found the back of the net off a long shot from a Rought pass at the 30:25 mark of the opening half.

Less than six minutes later Fischer centered it to Thoman, who slipped it past the keeper for the 2-0 lead.

"They've been working really hard on the little details that they knew that they had to perfect to make this happen," coach Fischer said. "I think in the first half, when we put those two goals in, that really showed how the girls have been focusing. We didn't have a lot of shots in the first half, but they capitalized on the shots that they did have, which gave us the momentum going into the half like that."

At the 28:32 mark of the second half King found Rought with a thru ball for the 3-0 lead.

"That changes the game and the dynamic to it," Fischer said. "It allows us more room to move our players freely, instead of being in a situation where you have to push up, and play players in certain situations. When Vayda put that one in, especially coming off an injury, that was big for us."
