AAU SOFTBALL: LADY LIGHTNING BLUE TAKE SILVER BRACKET AT KEYSTONE CHAMPIONSHIPS (2021-07-20)

STATE COLLEGE — The Lady Lightning 14U Blue won the Silver bracket at the Keystone State Championships over the weekend.

They went 3-0 beating the Vikings, the Wolfpack, and then the Vortex in the title game.


The bats came alive for the Lightning against the Vikings as they won 11-0.


Madalyn Hiley was 2-for-3 with a triple, a home run, and two runs scored, as Makenna Callear went 2-for-2 with a run scored.


Hannah Berger hit a home run, while Gretchen Schmieg walked three times, scoring twice.


Kelsea Moore and Toni Herb each had a hit with a run scored, while Paige Logsdon, Savannah Persun, and Myia Schoonover each scored a run.


Persun got the win in the circle.


The closest game came against the Wolfpack, beating them 4-3.


The Lightning jumped out early with two runs in the bottom of the first.


The Wolfpack got on the scoreboard with a run in the top of the third, but the Lightning notched two more in the bottom half of the inning to go up 4-1.


The Wolfpack scored two in the top of the fourth, but the Lightning got out of the inning to get the win.


Schmieg, Hiley, Logsdon, and Gabby Bradley each had a hit with a run scored, while Schoonover also had a hit.


Persun got the win, striking out one and allowing just one hit.


In the title game the Lightning won 10-3 over Vortex.


Moore led the charge, going 3-for-3 with a home run, two doubles, and two runs scored, as Hiley went 3-for-4 with three runs scored.


Persun was 2-for-3 with a double, and two runs scored, while Herb went 2-for-3 with a double. 


Berger had a triple with a run scored, while Schmieg and Logsdon each had a hit and crossed home.


Moore got the win, striking out five.
