NTL BOYS' BASKETBALL: TROY HOLDS ON TO BEAT WAVERLY (2022-01-27)

Northern Tier Sports Report
TROY — Troy used a strong third quarter push, and held off a fourth quarter Waverly rally, as they picked up the 64-60 non-league victory in boys’ basketball action Thursday.

Ty Barrett and Mason Imbt had 18 points each to lead the Trojans, with Ethan VanNoy netting 16. Justice Chimics and Colin Loveland had four points apiece, as Evan Woodward netted three, and Lance Heasley scored one.

Troy survived a 34 point night from Waverly’s Joey Tomasso.

The Wolverines led after the first quarter, 15-13, behind 12 from Tomasso, while VanNoy had five, and Imbt four to pace Troy.

Troy would score Waverly 17-15 in the second behind eight from Imbt, while Loveland had his four off the bench in the frame.

The Trojans were able to get some separation in the third, holding Waverly to eight points - all by Tomasso - as they got contributions from five different players, led by Barrett’s four.

Then, in the fourth, the offenses exploded. Barrett went off for nine points to lead a 21-point fourth quarter effort for Troy, who went on to shoot 7-for-10 from the charity stripe to hold their lead. VanNoy went 5-of-6 himself, while Imbt added four points as Chimics hit a crucial 3-ball.

Tomasso led Waverly with eight points in the frame, which saw the Wolverines score 22, as Brady Blauvelt and Liam Traub had five points each.

The win will help shore up Troy’s district standing spot. They’re currently in third, at 12-2, just behind Wellsboro (12-2). Loyalsock (13-3) leads the Class AAA rankings with a .716 power points rating.

The Trojans have another big non-league game as they host Williamsport on Saturday with a 7:30 p.m. start. The Millionaires started the season 6-1, but have gone 3-3 over their last three games.
