Northern Tier Sports ReportIt’s NTL Championship week, but first here is one dual meet left to make up. In baseball and softball the NTL Division-I title is still up for grabs, with Wyalusing in the leader’s spot. The week ends with the two division champions in baseball meeting up.
TRACK & FIELD
Monday, May 9
Canton, NEB, Towanda at Wyalusing, 4 p.m.: The last dual meet of the season features some of the top athletes in the area, including Canton thrower Kyle Kapichok, NEB distance runner Gracelyn Laudermilch, Towanda jumper Porschia Bennett, and Wyalusing sprinter Olivia Haley.
Friday, May 13
NTL Championships at Athens, 1:30 p.m.: The league convenes to determine the NTL champion, with the likely favorites Williamson boys and Athens girls. However, it could be a wide open meet as athletes gear up for districts.
SOFTBALL
Monday, May 9
Wellsboro (6-10) at Wyalusing (11-3), 4:30 p.m.: The Rams sit one game up on NPL in the division, and, with this being their last divisional game, a win here sews up the league title for them.
Canton (11-4) at Williamson (3-10), 4:30 p.m.: A battle of the Warriors. Canton needs all the help they can get to try and catch Bucktail for the fourth spot in the district standings, and a home playoff game.
Troy (4-9) at Towanda (4-10), 4:30 p.m.: The first one was a walk-off win for the Trojans, so expect another tight one as these teams look to finish the season strong.
Tuesday, May 10
Wyalusing (11-3) at NEB (11-1), 4:30 p.m.: The top two teams in each division will face off as they gear up for the district playoffs. Both have high hopes for the postseason, with NEB holding the top seed in Class A, and the Rams the third seed in Class AA.
Canton (11-4) at Troy (4-9), 4:30 p.m.: The first one ended in another walk-off - Troy has been in a lot of those this year - this time in favor of Canton. Another game the Warriors need in order to get home field for the first round of the playoffs.
Wednesday, May 11
Canton (11-4) at Towanda (4-10), 4:30 p.m.: The third game in three days for Canton as they play catch-up with their schedule. Both teams have busy weeks this week.
Thursday, May 12
Wellsboro (6-10) at Towanda (4-10), 4:30 p.m.: The third game in four days for the Knights, as they look to avenge a loss from earlier in the season.
Susquehanna at NEB (11-1), 4:30 p.m.: The Panthers were able to get a non-league make-up game, as they take on District II's Susquehanna.
Friday, May 13
Canton (11-4) at Montgomery (10-2), 4:30 p.m.: Canton gets to see where they’re at as they face off with the defending district champions. Montgomery’s only losses have come to Jersey Shore (Class AAA D4 leaders) and South Williamsport (Class AA D4 leaders).
NPL (10-4) at NEB (11-1), 4:30 p.m.: The good tune-up for the postseason between these two, as the Panthers try to hold off Montgomery for the top seed, while NPL tries to hold off Montoursville for a home game in the first round.
Saturday, May 14
Towanda (4-10) at South Williamsport (10-4), 4:30 p.m.: The fourth game of the week for the Knights, as they take on the Class AA D4 leaders. Towanda ended the season with a win over South last year.
BASEBALL
Monday, May 9
Canton (9-8) at Williamson (5-11), 4:30 p.m.: Canton needs just one more win to guarantee themselves a playoff berth. They were able to pull away from Williamson the first time around.
Troy (6-8) at Towanda (2-15), 4:30 p.m.: This is a make or break week for Troy when it comes to their playoff hopes. They were able to top Towanda at home the first time.
Wellsboro (10-4) at Wyalusing (15-0), 4:30 p.m.: The division title has already been decided, but this game has big playoff implications. The Rams currently hold a small lead over Sayre for the top spot in the district playoffs.
NEB (5-9) at Benton (9-3), 4:30 p.m.: The Panthers take a trip to face the top ranked team in the D4, Class A standings. NEB is looking to rebound from a close loss to Canton.
Tuesday, May 10
Wyalusing (15-0) at NEB (5-9), 4:30 p.m.: The only meeting for both teams. This is part of a busy week for both squads.
Wednesday, May 11
CV (7-8) at Troy (6-8), 4:30 p.m.: A big game for both teams as they look to make a playoff push. The Indians are currently rank second in the Class A, D4 standings, and both have a chance to make it even if they aren’t .500, but both would probably prefer to get a winning record to guarantee themselves a spot.
Canton (9-8) at Towanda (2-15), 4:30 p.m.: The Warriors pulled away to win the first meeting between the two teams, as the young Knights look to finish the season strong.
Thursday, May 12
Sayre (14-1) at NEB (5-9), 4:30 p.m.: The Panthers dropped the first of their two games against the Redskins last week, so will have another chance at them in their third game in four days.
Troy (6-8) at Canton (9-8), 4:30 p.m.: The final game of the regular season for Canton. The Warriors rallied from a 10-3 deficit to win 11-10 in their first meeting, so Troy will have revenge on their minds.
Friday, May 13
Hughesville (11-4) at Troy (6-8), 4:30 p.m.: In the Trojans’ third game of the week they face one of the best teams in Class AAA, as the Spartans are ranked second in the district.
Sayre (14-1) at Wyalusing (15-0), 4:30 p.m.: The final league game of the season could potentially be the best, depending on pitching match-ups. District seeding could also be on the line, while it could also be a prelude to the D4 title game.
BOYS’ TENNIS
Monday, May 9
District IV Boys’ Singles Tournament at Williamsport: The singles tournament was moved due to rain on Saturday. The top players from the district will compete to see who moves on to states.
Saturday, May 14
District IV Boys’ Doubles Tournament at Williamsport: The top doubles players will meet to see who can make it to states.
