CANTON — Four different Canton players scored in double figures as they opened the season with an NTL Division-II boys’ basketball win over Sayre, 68-58, Tuesday.
Isaiah Niemczyk led the way with 19 points while Cooper Kitchen had 13, Tyler Jannone scored 12 and Caiden Williams added 10.
Cameron Bellows chipped in with six points as Weston Bellows and Conner Foust had three points a piece. Gavin Morse rounded things out with two points.
Dom Fabbri led Sayre with 18 points as Matt Lane had 13. Zack Moore scored 11, Connor Young notched eight with Jackson Hubbard and Lucas Horton scoring four points a piece.
Sayre was able to rally from a first quarter deficit in their win over NEB on Monday but didn’t have the same luck against Canton. The Warriors jumped out to a 22-14 lead as Williams had eight points an while Kitchen netted two 3-pointers.
Sayre rallied some in the second quarter, out scoring Canton 15-12 to cut it to 34-29 at the half.
Niemczyk and Jannone each had a big third quarter, both scoring six points to push Canton further ahead 53-45. Young had six points in the quarter to keep Sayre in it.
In the fourth, though, Niemczyk had six more points while Sayre was held to a game low 13 to pull out the win.
Both teams shot the ball well with 10 3-pointers each.
Canton will face CV today, then travel to NEB on Friday for their busy first week.
