After losing half of last year’s starting line-up to graduation the Northeast Bradford girls’ soccer team was going to have some bumps in the road this year, but they also showed what they could do, too.
The Panthers went 4-13-1 on the year, opening their season with back to back wins over NP-Mansfield.
Their other wins were a thrilling 1-0 victory over district semifinalists, Wyalusing, at home, and a 1-0 victory over Sullivan County. They would also end the season with a 0-0 tie against Wellsboro.
The Panthers also had their fair share of close losses - Athens (2-1), Williamson (3-2), Troy (2-1), and Wyalusing (2-1) - particularly at the end of the season.
Senior Melanie Shumway proved once again that she’s one of the best all-around players in the league, leading the team in goals while also marking up opposing team’s best players.
Lani Thomas and Leah Beebe were also first team NTL all-star selections.
They’ll say good-bye to graduating stalwarts Shumway, Thomas, and Malina Ramires, but return lone junior Lillie Maynard, Beebe, and six freshmen, including standouts Mallorie Maynard, Katrina Russell, and Mackenzie Clark.
