NTL GIRLS' BASKETBALL: CANTON TOPS ADDISON IN DEFENSIVE BATTLE (2023-12-03)

LIBERTY — Canton used a strong defense to down Addison, 30-21, in the NPL girls’ basketball tournament consolation contest Saturday.

The Warriors had 16 steals as a team, holding Addison to just 13 points over the final three quarters.


Cailyn VanNoy had 11 points and two steals for Canton, while Kendall Kitchen finished with seven points, six boards, and five steals.


Daveian Crowley notched five points, 11 boards, two steals, and two assists, with Lydia Roupp getting three points and 10 rebounds.


Jaylee Ward had two points and three steals, as Danah Wesneski notched two points. Stella Ward chipped in with five boards, and two steals.


Caidyn Jones led Addison with nine points.


The Warriors held a 10-8 lead after the first quarter with Kitchen and VanNoy hitting 3-balls for Canton.


It turned into a defensive slugfest in the second frame, with Canton out scoring Addison 5-3 to take a 15-11 lead at the half.


The defensive battle continued in the third quarter, as the Warriors had just one field goal - but went 4-for-9 from the charity stripe - to extend their lead to 21-16 as they went into the final frame.


In the fourth they pulled away by netting nine points, behind two buckets from VanNoy, to get the win.


Canton (1-1) will travel to Wyalusing (1-1) Tuesday.
