Northern Tier Sports ReportBack to back snow storms threaten to wipe out over half this week’s schedule. However, if games can be played, there are quite a few big ones with league implications. Also, wrestlers will head down to the District IV Tournament in Williamsport Saturday.
BOYS’ BASKETBALL
Monday, February 15
Wellsboro (9-2) at Troy (12-2), 6 p.m.: The biggest game of the week when it comes to the NTL Division-I title. The Hornets’ loss to NEB on Saturday drops them to 9-2 in the NTL, while Troy’s undefeated week has them at 10-1, one game ahead. A win by Troy puts them up two games with three games left. A loss, and it’s anybodies game.
Wyalusing (8-3) at NP-Liberty (9-1), 6 p.m.: The biggest game of the week when it comes to the NTL Division-II title. The Rams are the only team capable of catching Liberty, and will likely need to win this one to have a chance at the title down the stretch.
Tuesday, February 16
Towanda (3-9) at Troy (12-2), 6 p.m.: Towanda has shown improvement despite their turbulent season. The Trojans won the first game in Towanda, and will need this win to stay atop the NTL.
Wednesday, February 17
Towanda (3-9) at Athens (8-7), 7:30 p.m.: The Knights will face Athens for the first time this season. Towanda is coming off a loss to NP-Mansfield at the end of last week while the Wildcats dropped a heart breaker to Troy.
Williamson (1-13) at Wyalusing (8-3), 5:30 p.m.: A varsity only game before the girls’ play Towanda. The Warriors just picked up their first win of the season last week.
Thursday, February 18
Tunkhannock (5-5) at NEB (6-7), 6 p.m.: The Panthers are looking to build off their big win over Wellsboro on Saturday. The Tigers defeated Athens earlier this season when Ben Chilson made 12 3-pointers en route to a 50 point performance.
Loyalsock (16-1) at Troy (12-2), 7:30 p.m.: The Trojans host their biggest non-league game of the season. Any district title aspirations go through the Lancers, who have beaten Williamsport this season.
Canton (6-6) at Athens (8-7), 7:30 p.m.: Both teams are battling for playoff seeding implications at this point. The Warriors are currently third in the District IV, Class AA standings while the Wildcats are fifth in Class AAAA.
Friday, February 19
Wyalusing (8-3) vs Sullivan County (4-5) at Hughesville Tournament, 6 p.m.: A non-league game for the Rams, who currently sit atop the Class AA standings in District IV. The Griffins got a later start to the season than most teams, but are always tough.
Saturday, February 20
Towanda (3-9) at NP-Liberty (9-1), 1:30. p.m.: The Knights hit the road for the third time this week. It was a 9-point win by the Mountaineers in Towanda, so the Knights will look to improve upon that performance.
Wyalusing (8-3) at Hughesville Tournament: The Rams will either be in the title game at the Hughesville Tournament, or will be in the consolation game.
Athens (8-7) at NEB (6-7), 7:30 p.m.: A part of NEB’s tough week this week as they look to get back to .500 on the season, and preserve their district seeding. They beat the Wildcats at home last season.
Troy (12-2) at CV (3-11), 2:30 p.m.: The Trojans take the long trip out to Westfield as they look to close in on an NTL title.
Canton (6-6) at NP-Mansfield (7-5), 6 p.m.: A make-up from earlier in the season. The Warriors will be looking to stay above .500 in this game of teams fighting for playoff positioning.
GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
Monday, February 15
Troy (4-8) at Towanda (11-1), 6 p.m.: The Knights will look to rebound from their first loss of the season against Sullivan County. Troy is coming off a big win over Canton as they battle for a playoff spot.
Wyalusing (7-3) at Sullivan County (6-4), 8 p.m.: The Griffins have gone 1-2 against NTL competition - falling to NEB and Athens but beating Towanda - so Wyalusing will need to be at their best to come out of Laporte with a win.
Canton (4-7) at Williamson (4-10), 6 p.m.: The battle of the Warriors as Canton looks to rebound from a loss at Troy. Canton won this match-up at home earlier in the season.
Wednesday, February 17
Towanda (11-1) at Wyalusing (7-3), 7 p.m.: A rematch from last week when the Knights jumped out to a big first quarter lead. The Rams will need to pick up the win to keep Towanda from running away with the NTL title.
Williamson (4-10) at Troy (4-8), 6 p.m.: The Trojans won their first match-up over the Warriors, and seem to be improving by the game. A win here would help them as they battle for a playoff spot.
Friday, February 19
Towanda (11-1) at NP-Liberty (4-6), 6 p.m.: The Knights will be looking to stay near the top of the District IV, Class AAA standings with a win. The Mountaineers have lost three straight after a 4-3 start to the season. Towanda won the match-up earlier in the season.
Athens (12-3) at NEB (10-3), 6 p.m.: The Panthers lost to Athens in double OT in their first game of the season. This time they get the Wildcats at home as they battle for a home game in the District IV playoffs.
Troy (4-8) at Wellsboro (3-6), 6 p.m.: The first meeting between the two teams as they’re not just battling in the league standings, but also in the District IV, Class AAA standings.
Saturday, February 20
Wellsboro (3-6) at Towanda (11-1), noon: The Hornets hung with Towanda for a half the first time around. The Black Knights came away with the win, but will be looking to shoot better in their home gym this time around.
Wyalusing (7-3) at Canton (4-7), 1 p.m.: The Rams will be looking to keep pace in the NTL and District IV standings as they make the trip to Canton. The Warriors will be looking to pick up a win on their home floor.
CV (1-13) at Troy (4-8), 2:30 p.m.: Their fourth game of the week, and their second at home, for the Lady Trojans. The Indians’ lone win this season came against Williamson.

Saturday, February 20
District IV Wrestling Championships at Williamsport: A one day affair this year due to Covid-19. The 9-man bracket means there will be some top match-ups right off the bat for the wrestlers.

Thursday, February 18
Towanda at NTL Championships (Athens), 4:30 p.m.: The Knights will be looking to compete one last time before the District IV Championships. This will be a match-up of Towanda, Athens and a handful of swimmers from Wellsboro.
