Northern Tier Sports Report
LIBERTY — Wyalusing eked out a 35-33 win over Meadowbrook Christian to win their first boys’ basketball game of the season during the consolation game of the Liberty Kiwanis Tournament Saturday.

The Rams rallied from an 11-point deficit going into the final frame scoring 16 points in the fourth to get the 2-point win.

The JV team also defeated Meadowbrook Christian, 55-20, to win the JV tournament title.

“I’m just really proud of our guys,” said Wyalusing coach Brent Keyes. “We have faced a lot of adversity from the beginning of the season with guys missing, losing a few close games, and then playing a tough schedule, we have continued to have good practices, we are getting better, and we have been having a lot of success at the JV level. We have been able to parlay some of that success with our younger group, mixing them in with our older guys, and we are starting to figure it out. This weekend was huge for us, and I can’t wait to watch this group continue to progress.”

Tyler Caplan led the Rams with 14 points, as Myles Kershner added nine.

Shay Gartland scored seven, Aiden Neiley, and Ashton VandeMark had two points each, with Hunter House netting one.

Jaeden Canelo led Meadowbrook with 16 points.

Meadowbrook jumped out to a 10-8 first quarter lead, with Caplan netting six points on three field goals to pace the Rams.

Meadowbrook would extend their lead to 19-14 at the half, while in the third Canelo went off for nine points for the 30-19 advantage going into the fourth.

In the final frame Wyalusing’s defense held Meadowbrook to just three points, while the Rams went 8-for-15 from the foul line to pull out the win. Caplan had eight points in the frame, going 6-for-7 from the charity stripe.

Wyalusing (1-5) will host Towanda on Thursday with a 7:30 p.m. start.
