Northern Tier Sports ReportA busy week despite three days off in the middle of it to celebrate Christmas. Canton girls’ basketball won their Christmas Tournament, Wyalusing girls reached the finals at the Hughesville Tournament, Wyalusing boys hoops got their first win, while Towanda and Troy girls, and Troy boys played at the Josh Palmer Fund. On the mats Towanda, NEB, and Wyalusing crowned champions at their respective tournaments.
For the boys four area wrestlers went undefeated on the week and finished on top of the podium. Towanda’s Mason Higley won the 285 pound title at Windsor, while NEB’s Mason Alexander (107) and Wyalusing’s Aydin Hunsinger (160) both won titles at Jim Thorpe. All three are the Male Athletes of the Week this week.
*Towanda’s Sawyer Robinson won a title at Windsor, but has already been AOW.
On the girls’ side Canton sophomore Cailyn VanNoy led the Warriors to their third straight Christmas Tournament title. She earned Tournament MVP, and hit five 3-balls in the title win over NPL, earning her the Female Athlete of the Week honors.
