CANTON — NEB survived a 25-point outing from Canton’s Ben Fitch as they held on to win 63-52 during NTL boys’ basketball action Tuesday.
NEB hit eight 3-pointers as a team, and went 13-for-18 from the free throw line.
Tanner Herb had 16 points to lead the Panthers, including four 3-balls, while Tyler Thoman netted 12 points, going 8-for-11 from the charity stripe.
Cooper finished with nine points, Brennin Thoman and Clay Wilks had six points each, as Mac Burgert, and Eli Stanton both netted five, while Dayton Russell rounded things out with four points.
Fitch had four 3-balls en route to his big night, while Talin Williams finished with nine points. Gunnar Resavage netted eight, Simon Wile had six, as Andrew Smith, and Quincy Wesneski finished with two points apiece.
NEB jumped out to a 15-12 lead as Stanton scored all five his points in the frame before leaving the game with an injury. Fitch paced Canton with eight points.
NEB extended their lead in the second, out scoring the Warriors 12-9 to take a 27-21 lead at the half. Herb had five points in the frame, while Resavage led Canton with five points, as well.
Both teams found the offense coming out of the locker rooms, with NEB netting 21 points behind Herb’s 10 - including three 3-balls - while Canton netted 18 as Fitch scored eight.
Holding on to a 48-39 lead NEB went to the free throw line 12 times in the fourth, making eight of them to hold on to the lead. Thoman was 7-for-10 himself, while Brown netted five points.
Fitch had five points to lead the Warrior rally, as Williams scored four.
NEB hosts Sayre on Thursday for a big Small School match-up, while Canton welcomes NP-Liberty.
