WELLSBORO — Towanda came up just short on the road at Wellsboro, falling 51-48 during NTL boys’ basketball action Thursday.
The Knights led 12-11 after one but saw Wellsboro take a 27-23 lead at the half. They extended that lead to seven points going into the fourth.
In the final frame Towanda had a game high 16 points but it wasn’t enough.
Darrius Farrell led Towanda with 16 points, as Markel Garner added 13, and Boom Thompson scored 10.
Ben Shrawder chipped in with five, while Bayley Poll netted four.
Mitchel Lechleher led the Hornets with 14 points, and Colin Fletcher scored 12.
Farrell hit two 3-pointers to open the game as he paced the Knights to the 1-point lead at the first horn.
The Hornets rallied for 16 points in the second quarter to take the four point lead at the half. Farrell’s five points in the frame lead the Knights, again.
The Knights were held to a game low nine points in the third, with Garner scoring four, as the Hornets took a 39-32 lead.
In the fourth Thompson had five to pace Towanda, but it wasn’t enough as Wellsboro’s Griffin Moral scored all six of his points in the frame to help the Hornets hold on for the win.
Towanda (6-5) will host NP-Mansfield on Tuesday.
