A few more weeks before the spring semester starts, Hudson Ward is back on the mats. Ward is at the David H. Lehman Open at Franklin and Marshall University this time. Ward wrestling unattached for Lock Haven University.
In the round of 64, Ward opened up with Luca Felix of NC State (unattached). After a scoreless first period, Ward chooses the bottom position and earns an escape and takedown before giving up an escape to end the period leading 4-1. Ward starts the third period on top, giving up just an escape to end the period 4-2 and then adding in the ride time point Ward would win 5-2 to move into the round of 32.
In the round of 32, Ward would face off against Jurius Clark of Hofstra. Ward would surrender the match's first takedown and end the first period down 4-0. Ward would choose the bottom position and give up 3 near-fall points to end the second period down 7-0. Ward in the down position to start the third period would give up two sets of near fall points of 3 and 4 to lose by technical fall 15-0 in 7:00 to fall to the consolation bracket.
In the Consi round 32 #2, Ward would face Jadon Skellenger of Lehigh University (unattached). After the first period, Ward would find himself down 3-0 by giving up the takedown. In the second period, Ward would choose neutral. The only action in the second was a stall warning against Ward. In the third period, Ward would start in the top position. Giving up the escape and another takedown Ward would find himself down 7-0. Ward would earn the one-point escape to make the match 7-1. The match would end 8-1 with Ward giving up the ride time point.
Ward would finish his day 1-2. Ward is trusting the process and hitting the mats when he can.
