Northern Tier Sports ReportTURBOTVILLE — Towanda proved to be too much for the defending District IV Duals Champions, beating Warrior Run 44-27 in non-league wrestling action Tuesday.
“It’s always good to go into that environment and wrestle,” said Towanda coach Bill Sexton. “They have very knowledgeable fans, and it’s usually a competitive match. I thought our kids went down and responded really well in that environment, and got a big win.”
They got five forfeits in the match, to go with one fall, one tech fall, and a decision.
“We got a good match out of Mason Higley, and a pretty competitive match at 127,” Sexton said. “Everything else kind of went the way you expected it to.”
Towanda took the first three bouts to go up 18-0 as Reese Sluyter (139) and Rylee Sluyter (152) got forfeits around a Riley Vanderpool (145) fall.
Warrior Run came back with three straight falls from the heart of their line-up - Reagan Milheim (160), Max Wirnsberger (172), and Tyler Ulrich (189) - to tie the score up.
Mason Higley (215) broke the tie with a 20-4 tech fall of Isaiah Betz in 5:20, followed by Sawyer Robinson (285) scoring a 1-0 decision over Noah Johnson to push Towanda’s lead to 26-18.
A forfeit from Mason Harbst (107) made it 32-18 Knights.
Chase Wirnsberger (114) would get a tech fall for Warrior Run to make it 32-23. However, a forfeit win by Curtis Maynard (121) secured the victory for the Knights.
At 127 Caden Snyder pulled out a 9-1 win over Towanda’s Hagen Jones, while at 133 Knight Gage Evans recorded a forfeit.
Towanda hits the road to Wellsboro on Thursday.
