TOWANDA — Towanda got a big win Friday, pulling away from Wellsboro, 56-27, during NTL boys’ hoops action.
The victory helps solidifies them in the seventh spot in the District IV, Class AAA standings.
“I’m extremely proud of our group,” Towanda coach Landon Henry said. “Growth is what we consistently preach to our guys to focus on. One month ago we lost to this team which hurt. But that’s life you won’t always get the outcome you desire. I’m proud of our guys for learning from that previous setback and not allowing it to define us. Our kids played hard and executed on both ends of a floor. We probably the best all season tonight. We want to keep building off this and play our best basketball in the next coming weeks.”
Towanda jumped out to a 14-5 first quarter lead, but Wellsboro cut into that deficit in the second, with Towanda up just 22-16 at the half.
A 22-2 run by the Knights in the third secured the win.
Darrius Farrell had 11 points to lead Towanda, with Boom Thompson netting nine. Markell Garner chipped in with seven, as Bayley Poll, Connor Barnes, and Graham Welles all scored six points.
Lucas Vincent, Landon Clark, and Keegan Stroud chipped in with three points each, as Ben Shrawder added two.
Garner and Thompson combined for 12 of Towanda’s 14 first quarter points, but Wellsboro’s Jonathan Carl rallied the Hornets with eight points in the second.
Farrell went off for seven points in the third as the Knights hit four of their eight 3-balls in the frame to pull away.
Towanda (13-9) will host Williamson on Tuesday in their regular season finale.
