
CANTON — Canton hung with NP-Liberty for the first half, but a 27-point third quarter by the Mounties helped them pull away for a 76-53 win during NTL boy’s hoops action Friday.
NPL led 20-14 after one, and 39-29 at the half before the big third frame.
Ben Fitch had 20 points to lead Canton, with Talin Williams adding 13.
Andrew Smith and Monte Whitehead had eight points apiece, as Simon Wile, and Gunnar Resavage both scored two.
Louis Mercantino led four Mounties in double figures with 24 points.
In the opening frame Fitch and Williams combined for 12 of their team’s 14 points while Mercantino netted eight.
Williams went off for eight points in the second quarter, as Smith scored five.
NPL had 11 field goals in their big third quarter. Canton scored 14 points as they tried to hang on, with Fitch scoring six.
Both teams scored 10 points in the fourth.
Canton ends the regular season 7-15.
