NTL BOYS' BASKETBALL: NEB HOLDS IN THE FOURTH TO TOP SAYRE (2025-02-08)

SAYRE — NEB avenged a loss from earlier in the year as they defeated Sayre, 55-46 during NTL boys’ hoops action Friday.

The Panthers jumped out to a 35-24 halftime lead, but saw Sayre close to within 39-34 after three. NEB then out scored them 16-12 in the final frame to pull out the win.


Cooper Brown netted 21 to lead the Panthers with Tanner Herb scoring 13. Clay Wilkes notched 10, Tyler Thoman had nine, with Eli Stanton scoring two.


NEB jumped out to a 16-13 first quarter lead behind three 3-balls, as Brown paced the effort with five points.


Brown, and Thoman had six points each as the Panthers opened up a 9-point lead going into the locker rooms.


Sayre held them to just four points in the third as closed it to within five.


In the fourth NEB went 9-for-17 from the free throw line, good enough to pick up the win.


NEB (14-8) saw their regular season end but will get ready for the NTL Showdown next week.
