
WELLSBORO — Canton sent five to the District IV Championships out of the North Section Tournament Saturday, with four finishing in the top three.
Carson Rockwell (145) came in second, as Tommy Preston (139), Lyle Vermilya (114), and Leland Pepper (189) all taking third. Levi Vermilya (107) punched his ticket with a fourth place finish.
Rockwell got a tech fall, and a pin to get to the finals, where he was pinned by Towanda’s Riley Vanderpool in 2:39.
Preston opened with a 9-0 win, then lost by a decision. He came back with a fall in the consolation semifinals, and a 6-0 decision in the third place match.
Lyle Vermilya opened with a fall, then lost 9-4 in the semifinals. He came back with a fall in the consolation semifinals, then picked up a 5-1 win over Wyalusing’s Isaiah Harvey in the third place match.
Pepper opened with a fall, then lost 21-11 in the semifinals. He would get a 16-7 win in the consolation semifinals, then finished things off with a 5-0 win in the third place match.
Levi Vermilya opened with a 14-3 loss, then won 10-4 in the blood round to advance. In the third place match he lost 11-1.
Manny Halbfoerster (152), and Carson Castle (121) both took sixth as they each went 0-3. Lawrence Halbfoerster (160) finished 0-2 on the day.
