NTL standouts CJ Carr and Hudson Ward compete at the collegiate level.
Staying home and wrestling in his own gym, CJ Carr is wrestling at the Mat Town Open II in Lock Haven.
Starting in the quarterfinals, CJ Carr squares off against Branden Rozanski (Unattached). In the first period, Rozanski was hit for a stall warning, and other than that, no scoring took place, with the period ending in a 0-0 tie.
In the second period, Carr begins in the top position. Carr would ride and build ride time up before allowing the 1-point escape, and that is how the second period would end with Carr down 1-0.
Carr would choose the down position in the third period. Carr would escape early in the third to tie the score at 1. With under a minute left to go in the third Carr would get the 3-point takedown to take a 4-1 lead. Carr would be for a stall warning before giving up the 1 point escape. With Carr having over a minute of riding time, he would win by a 5-2 decision to move onto the semi-finals, where he would match up with Seamus Mack from Lehigh University.
Wrestling in the semi-finals versus Seamus Mack of Lehigh University, Carr would work to a 0-0 tie after the first period. Carr chose the down position to start the second period, where he would earn a 1-point escape to take the 1-0 lead. With under a minute left in the period, Mack would take Carr down and to his back where Carr would be pinned in 4:08.
Dropping to third place bout Carr would face Noah Kochman of Duke unattached. Carr would secure the first points of the match with a 3-point takedown to take the 3-0 lead into the second period. With Carr having choice, he would choose the down position to start the second period. Carr is unable to escape from the bottom and would have the 3-0 lead into the third. In the third, Carr would start in the top position. Giving up the 2-point reversal to make the score 3-2. Carr would earn a 1-point escape, making the score 4-2; however, late in the match, Carr would be taken down and then turned to his back to give up the final 4 near fall points to make the final score 7-4 decision loss for Carr.
Carr would end his day 1-2 and finish in the fourth spot for the 141-pound weight class.
Hudson Ward is back in action as he is wrestling at the Mat Town College Open 2 at Lock Haven University.
Wrestling at 157 pounds, Ward would face off against Jurius Clark of Hofstra- unattached. Clark would get the first takedown to take the 3-0 lead. Ward would earn the escape to cut the lead to 3-1 before being called for a stall warning. Then Ward gets called for a second stalling, which made the score 4-1. Before the first period would end, Ward would be called for another stalling to make the score 5-1 to end the first.
In the second period, Ward begins in the top position. A quick escape by Clark would make the score 6-1. As the second period was winding down, Ward would be taken down and put to his back for a 3-point takedown and four near-fall points to make the score 13-1 entering the third period.
Ward chose to start the third period in the neutral position. The last period would end up with no scoring. Making the final score 14-1 after adding in the ride time point. With the loss, Ward would drop to the consolation round of 8 #2, where he faces off against his teammate Chase Burke.
Facing off against his teammate, Ward would give up the first takedown to take the 3-point lead in the first period. Starting the second period in the down position, Ward would get the 1-point escape to cut the lead to 3-1. After surrendering a second takedown, Ward would find himself down 6-1 before getting another 1-point escape to make the score 6-2 after two periods. Ward would start the third period in the top position, riding tough on top prior to giving up the 1-point escape, making the final score 7-2.
Ward would end his day 0-2. Another tournament in the books for Hudson Ward. Putting time in on and off the mat.
