WILLIAMSPORT — NEB’s Mason Alexander (107) had quite the run on Friday night at the Northeast Regional Championships, getting all the way to the semifinals.
He opened with a fall over Midd-West’s Mason Kerstetter, then pulled out an 8-7 upset over top seed, Williamson’s Zander Wilson.
Alexander was down 6-2 entering the third, but then got a takedown and back points to go up 8-6. Wilson got the escape, but Alexander held him off for the win.
He’ll face Montoursville’s Branden Eisenhour in the semifinals as he just needs to win one of the next two matches to punch his ticket to states.
Kale Howland (160) suffered a close loss against Troy’s Carter Austin in the opener, falling 4-1 by sudden victory. He gets Hughesville’s Mason Mordan in the elimination round.
Wrestling begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
