HERSHEY — Sullivan County’s Colton Wade rode his way into the state quarters during the PIAA, Class AA Wrestling Championships Thursday.
Wade (127) won 5-1 over Cathedral Prep’s Kamdyn Borrero in the opening round, spending most of his time on top.
“It feels pretty good, a first day win is always nice,” said Wade. “You don’t have to wrestle again.”
Wade controlled much of the match from top, especially in the second period as he even earned a stall point for his work.
“The kid can’t do anything if I’m that good on top,” he said. “I get a takedown in the first period, and then he goes down (in the second), I pretty much have the match won then. I just ride him, take top, and ride him again.”
Wade got a first period takedown for a 3-0 lead, then rode him out in the second, going up 4-0 with a stall point.
The two wrestlers traded points in the third for the 5-1 win.
He’ll get Faith Christian’s Joey Bachmann in the quarterfinals Friday morning.
“I’ve got a pretty good kid,” Wade said. “I’ve just have to stay on the attack on my feet, and just wrestle my style - if I do that I can beat anybody here.”
