
ROME — NEB pounded out 10 hits as they pulled away from Canton, 14-4 in six innings, during NTL softball action Tuesday.
The Panthers jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the first, only to see Canton cut it to 5-3 in the second. NEB would get those runs back in the fourth, then added five more in the fifth to pull away.
Makenna Callear (2-for-4) had two doubles, three runs scored, and an RBI, as Kiarra DeLancey (2-for-5) had a double, 2-RBI, and two runs scored.
Kelsea Moore (2-for-3) had two doubles, two runs scored, and 2-RBI, with Orissa Gardner (2-for-4) driving in two runs, with a run scored.
Hannah Berger (1-for-4) had 4-RBI, with a run scored, as Isabella Kapr (1-for-3) scored twice. Kristina Larnard, and Toni Herb both scored, with Larnard adding an RBI.
Callear got the win, striking out 10 with three walks, four hits, and four runs.
Jaylee Ward (3-for-4) had a double with two runs scored for Canton, as Lydia Roupp (1-for-1) also had a hit. Cyra Hugo, and Charleigh Anderson both crossed home, with Tiffany Acla getting an RBI.
Tara Gilbert struck out six in the loss, allowing five walks, 10 hits, and 14 runs.
Ward hit a lead-off double for Canton in the top of the first, then scored when Acla drew a bases loaded walk for a 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the first Berger had a bases clearing hit for a 3-1 lead. She would later get caught trying for home, but Gardner would single, then score on a wild pitch, followed by Herb scoring on a ground out for a 5-1 Panther advantage.
In the second Anderson, and Ward would score on an error off the bat of Gilbert for a 5-3 ball game.
It stayed that way until the fourth when NEB rallied with two outs, as Berger drew a walk bases loaded walk to score DeLancey, followed by Callear scoring on an error off the bat of Gardner.
The Panthers then shut the door in the fifth, again with two outs, as DeLancey singing in Kapr, followed by Callear and DeLancey scoring off a Moore double to make it 10-3.
An error off the bat of Berger kept the inning going, setting up Gardner’s 2-run single.
The Warriors got a run back in the sixth when Hugo scored on an error off the bat of Ward, but NEB ended the game with two runs in the bottom half of the inning. Kapr scored on a Callear hit, followed by Callear reaching home on a DeLancey hit.
NEB (3-1) hosts Sayre on Thursday, while Canton (0-3) welcomes Bucktail on Friday.
