VALLEY SPORTS REPORT: CORNING'S PROUDFOOT NAMED ALL-REGION BOYS BASKETBALL 'PLAYER OF YEAR;" TROY'S WOODWARD, TOWANDA'S THOMPSON ALSO EARN TOP HONORS (2025-04-18)

The Sports Reports
It was another exciting year of boys’ hoops with plenty of titles on both sides of the border, along with plenty of talented performers.

Leading the way is Corning’s Nolyn Proudfoot as the All-Region Boys’ Basketball "Player of the Year."

Proudfoot scored his 1,000th point as a freshman, averaging 23 points per game in the always tough STAC, while leading the Hawks to the Section IV, Class 3A team title.

Candor’s Jakobe Foster showed he could score in bunches with 22.5 points per game to be the "Offensive Player of the Year." He averaged 8.6 rebounds per game, 5.7 assists per game, and 2.7 steals per game.

Troy’s Evan Woodward was the heart of the Trojan defense with 3.2 steals per game while also getting 10.2 points per game, and handing out 5 assists per game, earning him the "Defensive Player of the Year."

Towanda freshman Boom Thompson proved to be one of the best freshmen of the year at 8 points per game, 5.7 assists per game, and 2.6 steals per game, while commanding the floor with a veteran presence. He is the "Newcomer of the Year."

The game of Tioga's Jackson Bombard took a big step this season as he put up 10.4 points per game, 5.7 assists per game, and 3.0 steals per game to be the "Breakout Player of the Year."

NP-Liberty’s Bear Mattison led the Mounties to the NTL Small School title, and their first District IV championship, taking home the "Coach of the Year" honors.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Jakobe Foster, Candor.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Evan Woodward, Troy.
NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR: Boom Thompson, Towanda.
BREAKOUT PLAYER OF THE YEAR:
Jackson Bombard, Tioga.

2024-25 ALL-REGION FIRST TEAM
Nolyn Proudfoot, Corning:

Jack Burbage, Troy: Burbage topped the 1,000-point career scoring plateau, and led the Trojans at 18.5 points, and 8.4 rebounds per game.

Lincoln Chimics, Troy: Chimics poured in 14.6 points, and 3.1 steals per game as a threat on both ends.

Cooper Shaw, NP-Mansfield: Led a strong Tiger squad with 15.6 points, and 7.4 rebounds per game.

Kyler Stevenson, Corning:  He averaged 15.8 points per game as Proudfoot’s running mate, while leading the team in rebounding at 7 per game.

Jack Fesetch, Horseheads:  He averaged 16.5 points per game on his way to shooting 39-percent from behind the 3-point arc.

James Harris, Elmira: 
Harris averaged 14.9 points, 4.1 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.9 steals per game for the Express.

Anthony Kitching, Elmira:  A strong defensive player, Kitching had 8.1 rebounds, and 1.8 steals per game.

ALL-REGION SECOND TEAM
Hogan Shaw, Waverly: 
Shaw averaged 16.5 points per game, and shot 37-percent from deep.

Nick Pellicano, Sayre:  A 1,000 point career scorer, Pellicano put up 16.5 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 2.8 steals per game.

Ben Fitch, Canton: 
He averaged a double-double of 17.5 points and 10.4 rebounds per game.

Tim Wojtysiak, Newark Valley:  He averaged 17.3 points per game to go with 7.5 rebounds per game.

Jack Nolan, Williamson: 
He led the NTL at 20 points per game, while grabbing 10.3 rebounds per game for a double-double.

Cooper Brown, Northeast Bradford:  The sweet shooter averaged 16 points per game for a Panther squad that made a deep playoff run

Adynn Wheeland, NP-Liberty:  He averaged 12.7 points, 4.5 rebounds per game, and 39-percent from deep.

Mason Halloway, Horseheads: Halloway averaged 12.8 points and 6 rebounds per game for the Blue Raiders.

Mekai Daniels, Corning:  The team’s defensive standout, while scoring 8.2 points per game.

ALL-REGION THIRD TEAM
Blake Oakley, NP-Liberty: 
A strong defensive player at 2.8 steals, and 1.4 blocks per game, while averaging 9.3 points, and 6.4 rebounds per game.

Alex Davis, NP-Mansfield: Davis averaged 9.4 points, 4.4 assists, and 3.2 steals per game.

Donald Makie, Candor:  The 3-point shooter averaged 14.8 points per game as he shot 39 percent from deep.

Matt Higgins, Owego:  A stat stuffer at 10 points, 8 assists, 7 rebounds, and 4 steals per game.

Johnny Durr, Horseheads:  He scored 11 points per game, while shooting 35-percent from deep.

Dominic Palmer, Tioga:  Palmer averaged a double-double with 10.3 points, and 10 rebounds per game to go with 2.3 blocks per game.

Joseph Palladino, Owego:  A strong defender, Palladino averaged 7 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 steals per game.

Kreger scored 12.2 points per game to go with 5.8 rebounds, and 2.7 steals per game for the Mounties.
