
WELLSBORO — Canton fell in a back and forth game with Wellsboro, 12-9, during NTL softball action Monday.
The Hornets led 4-1 after one, but Canton used back to back 3-run innings in the third and fourth to take a 7-4 lead midway through the game.
In the bottom of the fourth Wellsboro scored to to cut it to 7-6, only to see the Warriors push two more across in the top of the fifth for a 9-6 lead.
The Hornets, though, scored three in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game, then added three more in the sixth to get the win.
Alyssa May (2-for-4) had two doubles with 3-RBI, and a run scored, as Cyra Hugo (1-for-4) also had a double.
Jaylee Ward (1-for-3) and Addi Pepper (1-for-2) both scored twice, as Nevaeh Vroman, Charleigh Anderson, Lydia Roupp, and Trinity Acla all crossed home.
Tara Gilbert started, going a third of an inning with one walk, three hits, and four earned runs. Ward pitched the final 5 2/3-innings to take the loss, striking out four with four walks, seven hits, and eight runs, two of which were earned.
In the top of the first Ward had a lead-off walk, then scored a steal for the 1-0 lead. It was short lived as Wellsboro scored four in the bottom half to take the lead.
In the third Acla drew a 1-out walk, followed by Ward getting a hit. After an out May doubled in Ward for a 4-2 games eating up Pepper and May scoring on an error off the bat of Gilbert to knot the game up.
Hugo led off the fourth with a double, followed by Roupp getting hit by a pitch. After two outs Pepper singled to keep the inning goings setting up a May double that drove in Roupp and Acla.
Pepper then scored on a passed ball for a 7-4 game.
In the fifth Vroman led off with a walk, followed by Anderson reaching on an error. After two outs Skylar Gowin kept the inning going, scoring Vroman on an error off her bat for an 8-6 score.
Anderson would steal home for a 9-6 score.
Canton, though went down in order over the next two innings as Wellsboro rallied.
Canton (2-9) travels to Sayre on Tuesday.
