
WYSOX — A walk-off bases loaded walk to Boom Thompson scored Lucas Vincent and Towanda used a 4-run seventh inning to rally past South Williamsport, 11-10, during non-league baseball action Tuesday.
The Knights led 2-0 after two, with South getting on the scoreboard with a run in the top of the third. A 4-run bottom half from the Knights put them in control 6-1.
South responded with a 5-run fourth inning to knot the game up. It stayed knotted in the fifth as both teams scored, with the Mounties taking a 1-run lead in the top of the sixth.
South extended the lead to 10-7 with two more runs in the top of the seventh, but Towanda answered with four runs in the bottom half of the inning, scoring the tying and go ahead runs with 2-outs.
Jack Wheaton (2-for-4) scored twice, and drove in a run, as Vincent (1-for-3) had a double with 3-RBI, and a run scored.
Thompson (1-for-3) scored twice, and drove in a run, as Gianni Assante also crossed home twice and had an RBI.
Jack Tavani (1-for-2) had a double with two runs scored, while Dawson Butts (1-for-4) scored, and drove in a run. Owen Lane (1-for-4), and Wil Shrawder each had an RBI, Rylee Sluyter crossing home.
Tavani got the start, going 3 2/3-innings with three strikeouts, two walks, four hits, and six runs, none of which were earned.
Gianni Assante went 2 1/3-innings with three strikeouts, two walks, one hit, and four runs, two of which were earned.
Brad Assante went the final inning, and nabs the win, allowing one walk, and one hit.
In the first Thompson drew a 1-out walk and later scored on a Gianni Assante sacrifice fly for a 1-0 lead.
In the second Tavani led off with a double, and scored on a Vincent ground out to go up 2-0.
Then came the big third inning as Sluyter led off with a walk, followed by Thompson hitting a single. Wheaton then singled in Sluyter, followed by Gianni Assante drawing a walk.
After back to back strikeouts Shrawder kept the inning going as he reached on an error, which allowed Wheaton and Assante to score.
That set up Vincent’s 2-run double to make it 6-1.
After South rallied back Butts reached on an error in the bottom of the fifth, then scored two batters later as a 2-out error off the bat of Shrawder brought him in to knot the game up at 7-7.
Then came the fireworks filled seventh inning. Wheaton would lead things off by reaching on an error, followed by Gianni Assante getting hit by a pitch.
Butts then singled in Wheaton for a 10-8 ball game.
Tavani followed by reaching on an error, with Shrawder making it a 1-run game as he plated Assante with a ground out.
South got one out away on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Vincent, but kept things going with a hit that scored Tavani to knot the game up at 10-all.
Sluyter then reached on an error to load the bases, setting up Thompson’s walk. His at bat started 0-2 after back to back fouls, then he got four straight balls to get the game winning RBI.
Towanda (5-5) travels to Wyalusing on Thursday.
