
WYSOX — Towanda fell to South Williamsport, 13-4, in non-league softball action Tuesday.
The Mounties jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first, and led by as much as 7–0 midway through the third.
Towanda would get two across in the bottom half of the inning, but saw South tack on three more in the fourth to take a 10-2 lead.
The Knights out scored South 2-1 in the fifth, while the Mounties added runs in the sixth and seventh for the 9-run win.
Brooklyn Evans (1-for-3) had a home run, 2-RBI, and two runs scored as Brynsen Vargason (2-for-3) had a double with an RBI.
Payton Perry (1-for-3), and Tae-Lynn Brabant (1-for-4) both scored as Aleah Johnson (1-for-3), Leila Cobb (1-for-2), and Caedence Wells (1-for-3) also had hits.
Brabant got the start, and took the loss, going three innings with two strikeouts, three walks, five hits, and seven runs, four of which were earned.
Johnson went the final four innings with one strikeout, six hits, four walks, and six runs, four of which were earned.
After threatening in the first two innings Towanda broke through in the third with two outs.
Perry singled, then scored on an error off the bat of Evans to make it 7-1. A Johnson single kept the at bat going, then Vargason doubled in Evans to cut the deficit to five.
Evans would hit a 2-run home run in the fifth as Brabant singled ahead of her.
Towanda (5-4) will travel to Wyalusing on Thursday.
