ROME — Northeast Bradford pulled out a wild one, beating Williamson 12-7 in NTL softball action Thursday.
The win makes the NTL Small School division a 2-team race for the title between these two teams. They’ve split the season series, while NEB is 6-4 in the NTL, and Williamson is 4-4.
Williamson has a loss to CV, and has to play them again, while NEB swept the Indians. However, the Warriors beat Wyalusing, a team NEB lost to.
On Thursday the Panthers took a 2-0 lead in the second, only to watch Williamson score five in the top of the third to take a 3-run lead.
NEB answered with six runs in the bottom half to go back up 8-5. Williamson cut it to 8-7 in the top of the fourth, but a 4-run bottom half from the Panthers put them up by five, and they held the Warriors at bay from there.
The Panthers had 12 hits on the day as Hannah Berger (3-for-4) scored three times, while Orissa Gardner (2-for-4) had 3-RBI, with a run scored.
Isabella Kapr (2-for-3) had 2-RBI, with Ava Lambert (1-for-2) hitting a triple with two runs scored, and an RBI.
Zaelea Lane (1-for-3) had 3-RBI with a run scored as Kiarra DeLancey (1-for-2) tripled, and scored twice.
Toni Herb (1-for-3) drove in a run, and scored, as Kelsea Moore (1-for-2) also crossed home.
Makenna Callear took the win, going 6 2/3-innings with four strikeouts, four walks, three hits, and two runs. Moore went one-third of an inning with one strikeout, three walks, one hit, and five runs.
“The girls finally strung some hits together tonight,” said NEB coach MaKaylah Leljedal. “They played hard and fought back each time Williamson scored. It was a big win for as as we lost to them earlier in the season. The girls were very determined. Makenna Callear threw a beautiful game on the mound and was hitting her spots. I’m so proud of the girls. They had an all around great game.”
In the second Berger led off with a hit, then scored three batters later on a 2-out triple from Lambert. Kapr then drove in Lambert for the 2-0 lead.
After the big Williamson inning DeLancey started the third by drawing a walk. After an out Gardner drove her in with a hit.
Berger then singled, followed by Herb reaching to load the bases. That set up a bases clearing double from Lane to put the Panthers up 6-5.
Lambert kept the rally going with a walk, then Kapr doubled in Lane for a 2-run lead. Lambert would score on a wild pitch to make it 8-5 going into the fourth.
After Williamson cut it to a 1-run game DeLancey led off the fourth with a triple. Moore then drew a walk with Gardner driving in both Delancey and Moore for a 10-7 score.
Berger kept things going with a hit, followed by Herb driving in Gardner with a ground out. Berger would score on a Lane sacrifice fly for the 12-7 final.
NEB (7-5) heads to Sullivan County on Saturday with a 1 p.m. start.
