
WESTFIELD — Canton softball was strong early but saw CV pull away as they fell 12-4 in NTL softball action Thursday.
The Warriors led 2-1 after one, but CV added five runs in the second, and four in the third to go up 10-2.
Both teams scored a run in the fifth, with CV getting one in the sixth. Canton added another in the seventh for the 12-4 final.
Tara Gilbert (3-for-4) had a double with an RBI, as Jaylee Ward (2-for-3) scored. Addi Pepper (1-for-3) scored twice, with Alyssa May driving in two runs while also crossing home.
Charleigh Anderson (1-for-2) had a hit, with Neaveh Vroman driving in a run.
Gilbert started, and went 2 1/3-innings with three strikeouts, five walks, six hits, and eight runs, three of which were earned. Ward went the final 3 2/3-innings with one strikeout, one walk, seven hits, and four runs, two of which were earned.
Ward opened the game with a hit, followed by Pepper drawing a walk. A May ground out would bring in Ward for a 1-0 lead.
Gilbert then doubled in Pepper to make it 2-0 Warriors early.
In the fifth May would draw a 2-out walk, followed by Gilbert getting a single. Cyra Hugo then kept the inning alive by drawing a walk.
Vroman then got hit by a pitch to bring in May for Canton’s third run.
In the seventh Pepper led off with a hit, then scored on a May sacrifice fly.
Canton (3-8) will welcome NEB on Tuesday with a 4:30 p.m. start.
