
EAST TROY — Troy split a double-header with Midd-West in non-league softball action Saturday, losing the first game 3-1, then winning the second 15-0 in three innings.
FIRST GAME
Midd-West went up 1-0 with a run in the top of the first, while Troy tied it with a run in the bottom half of the third.
Midd-West broke the tie with a 2-run sixth to get the win.
Amber James (2-for-3) had a multi-hit game for Troy, as Madi Palmer (1-for-3), and Kali Ayres (1-for-3) also had hits. Lauren Ridall scored the run.
Erinn Knapp struck out seven in the loss, while allowing four walks, two hits, and three unearned runs.
In the third Ridall reached on a 2-out error. Ayres would single, allowing Ridall to score on an error in the outfield.
SECOND GAME
Troy scored early and often in the night cap, opening with five runs in the first. They added seven in the second, then tacked on three more in the third for the mercy rule win.
James (3-for-3) had 3-RBI, with three runs scored, as Lauren Reed (2-for-3) had a double, 3-RBI, and three runs scored.
Marlee Stanton (2-for-2) had 2-RBI with a run scored, as Haidyn Watson (2-for-3) scored, and drove in a run.
Sydnee Bellows (1-for-2) had an RBI, with Ridall, Ayres, and Palmer all scoring twice. Knapp also found home.
Watson got the win, striking out five with one walk, and no hits.
In the first Ridall led off by reaching on an error, followed by Ayres drawing a walk. Ridall then came in to score on an error off the bat of Palmer for the 1-0 lead.
A Reed double scored Palmer and Ayres to make it 3-0.
James kept the rally going with a single, with both Reed and James scoring on Stanton’s sacrifice fly for the 5-0 first inning lead.
The Trojans would do all their damage in the second inning with two outs as Ridall earned a walk. She later scored on an error off the bat of Palmer, with Palmer scoring on a Reed single for the 7-0 lead.
A James hit allowed Reed to score. Stanton would single to keep the at bat alive, setting up a Watson hit that James and Stanton for a 10-0 lead.
An error off the bat of Knapp brought in Watson to make it 11-0. Bellows would plate Knapp for the seventh run of the inning to make it 12-0.
In the third Ayres led off by reaching on an error, then scored two batters later on an error off the bat of Reed.
James then singled in Reed, with James scoring two batters later on a Watson hit.
Troy (6-4) will host Wyalusing on Tuesday with a 4:30 p.m. start.
