NTL SOFTBALL: TOWANDA USES BIG FOURTH INNING TO TOP NP-LIBERTY (2205-04-29)

Northern Tier Sports Report
MANSFIELD — A 4-run fifth inning propelled Towanda softball to a 4-2 win over NP-Liberty in NTL softball action Tuesday.

The win avenges an extra innings loss from earlier in the season for the Knights. NPL would get runs in the third, and seventh innings.

“I am really proud of our girls tonight, and pulling through until the end,” said Towanda coach Caitlyn Crawford. “Tae and Aleah both threw a great game combined on the mound. We had some tough losses in the first half of the season, so it’s nice to come out on the other side this time. We want to keep using this momentum moving forward through this second half of the season. We still have some tough games ahead.”

Payton Perry (1-for-3) had 2-RBI as Aleah Johnson (1-for-3) scored. Brynsen Vargason (1-for-3) added a hit, as Caedence Wells, Kynlee Kunkle, and Layla Miller all crossed home.

Tae-Lynn Brabant got the start, and win, going four innings with four strikeouts, two walks, four hits, and one earned run.

Johnson tossed the final three, striking out three with two walks, three hits, and one earned run.

Down 1-0 going into the fifth the Knights did all their damage with two outs.

Johnson had a lead-off single but back to back outs put the Knights at bat on the brink. An error off the bat of Wells allowed Johnson to tie the game up.

Kunkle then reached on an error, setting up an error off the bat Miller that allowed Wells to score for the 2-1 lead.

Perry then singled in Kunkle and Miller to go up 4-1.

In the seventh NPL would load the bases with no outs, but Johnson would retire three straight batters to keep the damage to one run as Towanda secured the win.

Towanda (7-4) hosts Wellsboro on Thursday with a 4:30 p.m. start.
