NTL BASEBALL: CANTON HOLDS OFF LATE WILLIAMSON RALLY (2025-05-06)

CANTON — Canton pounded out 13 hits as they out ran Williamson, 15-10, during NTL baseball action Monday.

There was plenty of scoring, with the two teams combining for 20 runs in the final three-and-a-half innings.


Canton led 2-1 after one, with Williamson tying it up at 2-2 in the second. Canton added one more in the third, then took a 7-2 lead with four runs in the fourth.


Williamson came back with three runs in the top of the fifth to cut it to 7-5, but a 6-run bottom half by Canton put them up 13-5.


Williamson pushed five across in the sixth to make it a 3-run game, but Canton got two back in the bottom half, then held Williamson scoreless in the seventh to get the win.


Ben Fitch (3-for-5) had a double, a triple, three runs scored, and an RBI to lead Canton as Holden Ward (2-for-4) had a home run, 3-RBI, and two runs scored.


Bailey Gardner (2-for-5) had a double, three runs scored, and an RBI, with Zach Colton (2-for-3) getting a double, 3-RBI, and two runs scored.


Michael Beers (1-for-3) scored twice, and drove in two runs, as Mason Stierly (1-for-3) had 2-RBI. Reed Taylor (1-for-4), and Carson Castle both scored, ad Tommy Preston (1-for-3) had a hit.


Taylor started, and went two innings to get the win. He struck out one with three walks, two hits, and two earned runs.


Ward went two innings with six strikeouts, one walk, and one hit, as Beers tossed an inning with one strikeout, one walk, four hits, and five runs, three of which were earned.


Fitch pitched the final two innings with three strikeouts, five walks, one hit, and three runs, two of which were earned.


Fitch led off the bottom of the first with a double, then scored two batters later on a Gardner hit. Beers then drove in Gardner with a single for the 2-1 lead.


In the third Ward led off by drawing a walk, then scored when Stierly was hit by a pitch with bases loaded.


In the fourth Fitch hit a 1-out single, followed by Ward hitting a 2-run home run to make it 5-2.


Gardner then doubled, then scored on a 2-out Colton double for a 6-2 score. After a Taylor single kept the inning alive, Stierly singled in Colton to make it 7-2.


Williamson would cut it to a 7-5 game but in the bottom of the fifth Castle draw a walk to lead things off. He scored on a Fitch’s triple, who then scored on a Ward hit for a 9-5 ball game.


After an out Beers brought in Ward on an error off his bat. After walks to Colton and Taylor loaded the bases, Bears and Colton would both steal home for a 12-5 score.


Taylor then scored home on the next at bat to make it 13-5.


Canton scored both runs in the sixth with two outs as Gardner and Beers drew back to back walks, then scored on a Colton single for the 5-run difference.


Canton (5-8) will take on Sugar Valley Rural Charter on Wednesday.
