
CANTON — A slow start doomed Canton as they fell 18-5 to Wellsboro during NTL baseball action Thursday.
The Hornets jumped out to a 12-0 lead after two innings, making it 13-0 midway through the third.
Canton punched through with three runs in the third, while in the fifth they out scored Wellsboro 2-1 to make it 13-5.
In the seventh the Hornets tacked on four insurance runs for the win.
Bailey Gardner (2-for-4) had two doubles, two runs scored, and an RBI as Zach Colton (3-for-3) had two doubles with 2-RBI.
Ben Fitch (1-for-4) had a double with two runs scored, while Michael Bears (1-for-4) had 2-RBI with a run scored.
Luke Crawley (1-for-2) also had a hit.
Beers started and takes the loss, going two-thirds of an inning with one strikeout, three walks, two hits, and seven earned runs.
Rylan Wesneski tossed the next 1 1/3-innings with two walks, two hits, and five runs, two of which were earned.
Carson Castle pitched 4 2/3-innings with three strikeouts, three walks, three hits, and six unearned runs.
Fitch tossed the final third.
In the third Canton went with two outs as Fitch reached on an error, followed by Gardner hitting a double. Beers then singled in Fitch and Gardner for a 13-2 score.
Colton then brought in Beers with a double to make it 13-3.
In the fifth Fitch hit a 1-out double, followed by Gardner driving him in with a double to make it 14-4. A 2-out single from Colton scored Gardner for a 14-5 ballgame.
Canton faces Troy on Saturday with a 4:30 p.m. start.
